NEWARK, Ohio — They lost their father in the line of duty.

But three daughters of Danville police Officer Thomas Cottrell got a heartwarming escort to homecoming from some of his brothers in blue.

ABC 6 reports Courtney, Brooklyn and Alycia attended their Licking Valley homecoming dance Saturday night.

Officers Mark Perkins and Josh Abshire stood in for their dad.

“We want you to forever know we are here with you always,”Perkins told them.”It’s an absolute honor for us to get to take your girls to the dance.”

“He may not be physically with us, but he’s in our hearts. That’s all that counts,” Courtney said.

Cottrell was found dead behind the village municipal building in Danville in January. Herchel Ray Jones III was arrested in the slaying.
