One dead, one seriously injured in hit-and-run accident on I-480

CLEVELAND-- A Cleveland woman is dead and a Maple Heights woman is in critical condition after they were hit by a car as they changed a tire on Interstate 480 at State Road Saturday evening.

Tanisha Matthews, 27, of Cleveland, and Asiah Matthews, 23, of Maple Heights, were hit as they stood on the right-hand berm of the road at around 8:45 p.m.

The pickup truck that hit them was driven by Clark Justen, 48, of Brunswick. The Ohio State Highway Patrol said Justen's pickup drifted off the road, hit the women and then continued on.

Justen was found a short time later at the Ridge Road exit.

Tanisha Matthews was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Asiah Matthews was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center where she was listed as being in critical condition.

Justen was treated by Cleveland EMS and later taken to MetroHealth for evaluation.

The patrol reported drugged driving is suspected to be a factor in the crash. It remains under investigation.
