Safety alert issued after man attempts to lure girl into car in Elyria

ELYRIA, Ohio -- Elyria City School District issued a safety alert to parents after a female student said a man told her to "get in his car" while exposing himself.

According to the alert sent to all parents, it happened Wednesday. A black male in a gold/tan SUV was traveling east on the Third Street bridge when he reportedly pulled alongside two students. He told one of them -- a girl -- to "get in the car."

The man was said to be exposing himself at the time.

The man was described as being in his mid-30s and stocky with a buzz haircut. The vehicle was said to have stickers on the back and a busted out rear passenger side window.

The student said a similar situation happened two other times within the last month with the same male and same vehicle, but she didn't report those incidents. Both were said to have happened near Third Street and Roosevelt School while the student was walking to or from school.

The alert said:

"BE ON ALERT. If you see a vehicle or person matching this description please report this to immediately to the Elyria Police Department. Please report ANY suspicious behavior, vehicles, or persons to the Elyria Police Department immediately. Please remind students and parents to walk in groups and to run and tell a trusted adult immediately."
