Cause of death released after Euclid High School football player passes away

EUCLID, Ohio-- The Euclid High School football player who died Sunday after being injured during Euclid's game against Solon died of peritonitis due to a laceration of the small bowel which was caused by blunt impact to the abdomen.

That's according to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office. Peritonitis is an inflammation of the abdomen's lining.

Andre Jackson, 17, was initially treated by the team medical staff at the stadium, Friday night.

According to University Hospitals, he was then brought to UH Ahuja Medical Center on Friday and released Saturday morning.

They said he was brought by EMS to UH Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital on Sunday evening, where he passed away. UH is conducting a full review of his care.
