WEST VIRGINIA –  A 13-year-old girl and her newborn son, who police believe were kidnapped by the girl’s stepfather, have been found in rural West Virginia.

Katherine Derleth and her then 2-week-old son, Christopher Ray Derleth, were last seen Sunday, September 18th at the home of a guardian in suburban Edwardsville, Illinois.

Investigators believed that  39-year-old Christoper M. Derleth kidnapped the pair.

The sheriff’s office in Madison County, Illinois posted on their Facebook page that the girl and the baby were found Saturday in a rural mountainous range, south of Charleston, West Virginia. Christopher M. Derleth was with them at the time and was taken into custody without incident. He is being  held in West Virginia pending further investigations and the court extradition process.

Madison County sheriff representatives are in West Virginia and are working to find a placement for the two children. They did not release any information on their conditions or details of the week they were missing.
