OMAHA, Nebraska– A high school in Omaha, Nebraska, is investigating claims of bullying after someone dumped a student’s belongings into the toilet.
According to KMTV, surveillance video at the school shows two male students walk off with Alexis Hernandez’s backpack.
A photo which is going viral shows the items in a toilet. They include Hernandez’s school supplies, homework, debit card, and his cochlear implant. Hernandez is deaf; without the implant, he can’t hear.
He told KMTV, “Those students think it’s okay to bully a deaf student, but it’s not. It’s not okay to bully someone who is disabled, deaf or hard of hearing. Or anyone for that matter.”
School administrators told Hernandez’s mother that one of the students was suspended; the other is still under investigation.
Omaha Public Schools released a statement to KMTV which says they “take these kind of situations very seriously.” They call what happened an isolated incident and released steps the schools take to prevent bullying.
