Community comes together to clean up memorial to 11 women on Imperial Avenue

CLEVELAND, Ohio-- People in Cleveland came together on Saturday to clean up a memorial dedicated to the women who were killed by Anthony Sowell.

The home on Imperial Avenue was torn down several years ago and a memorial remains in the lot where the bodies of 11 women were found in 2009.

cleaning up Imperial AvenueSome community members said the memorial had fallen into disrepair and as a tribute, victims' families and others came together to make it look better.

Several local landscapers donated time to help, as well.

Sowell was sentenced to death for the women's murders. In April, the Ohio Supreme Court heard arguments on Sowell’s appeal.  He is asking for a new trial and to have his death sentence overturned.
