27 rocking horses to honor fallen heroes start cross-country trip

MANTUA, Ohio-- Hero's Rock is a small company in Mantua that builds special rocking horses. The rockers go to children of fallen heroes, including armed forces members, firefighters and police officers.

On Wednesday, its latest labor of love hit the road with a rousing send off.

Founders Scott and Trish Snyder are going on a tour of the western United States, and they're bringing some precious cargo: 27 patriotic rocking horses.

The rockers will be delivered to Fisher House, which provides free or low-cost lodging to veterans and their families receiving treatment at military medical centers.

Each horse has a personal tough from Northeast Ohio.

"We want to get as many people involved to show our love and support so military families know that they're not forgotten," Scott Snyder said. "We've got their back like they have ours."

In March 2015, the workshop's roof collapsed under the weight of wet snow and ice. Thanks to support from the community, the Snyders were able to rebuild.

Hero's Rock began building rocking horses in 2010. It's a non-profit group that relies on community support to carry out its mission. Click here to learn how to donate.
