ROCKY RIVER - An anxious 911 call came in to the Rocky River Police Department late Saturday afternoon.

"It was a typical Saturday. We were finishing up at Whole Foods and we were loading up our car," said Elizabeth Cook and Vaughn Augustine of Lakewood.

But then the couple heard a woman scream.

"I started walking towards the scream. Initially, I did not see her, but I saw this guy running," said Augustine.

"He just dove into the passenger side car door. The window was down and he literally dove right in and they just sped off," said Cook.

Surveillance pictures show the suspect inside Whole Foods moments before the attack.

Rocky River Police say the man tried to grab the purse off a woman's shoulder as she walked to her car.

"I remember trying to remember everything I saw. The color of the car, what the guy looked like, and then I started running after them to get the license plate number. GUR2012," said Augustine.

Cook says another witness told police the suspect had cased out the store.

"She had seen him going in and out of Whole Foods by himself, looking at women by themselves, women with small children, and he was following them around," said Cook.

Rocky River Police say the incident is under investigation.

Police say the license plate was possibly stolen and may be connected to similar incidents in other cities.
