Akron police investigating fatal crash

AKRON – Akron police are investigating a fatal one-car crash that happened just before 3 a.m. on Saturday.

According to a release, a Mercedes Benz sedan was traveling at a high rate of speed going eastbound on Triplett Boulevard almost to Staeger Street.

The driver lost control and struck a fire hydrant.

After hitting the hydrant, the car continued going eastbound before flipping and hitting a utility pole.

The 41-year-old male driver was killed when the car struck the utility pole.

The investigation is ongoing.
