ORLANDO, Florida — CNN anchor Anderson Cooper began his Monday night broadcast with a poignant tribute to the victims of Sunday’s massacre in Orlando.

“In the next two hours we want to try to keep the focus where we think it belongs, on the people whose lives were cut short,” Cooper said.

“They are more than a list of names. They are people who loved and who were loved,” Cooper said as he read the names of 48 of the 49 people killed. As of the reading, the last victim had yet to be identified.

Cooper got emotional throughout the reading as he tried to personalize each victim with something about their lives, their families, and their friends.
