Orlando police identify man who shot and killed ‘Voice’ singer Christina Grimmie

ORLANDO – The violent death of Christina Grimmie has stunned many.

On Saturday afternoon, Orlando police identified her killer as 27-year-old Kevin James Loibi. Officials say he had two handguns and a hunting knife on him.

Police are now working to determine if he was connected to Grimmie in any way.

Celebrities immediately took to social media after learning that the 22-year-old Season 6 finalist on “The Voice” was shot and killed Friday during a fan meet-and-greet.

“Behati and I are absolutely devastated and heartbroken by Christina Grimmie’s death. Our hearts go out to her family,” wrote Adam Levine in a photo caption with Grimmie on his Facebook and Twitter accounts. Levine was Grimmie’s coach on the NBC singing competition series in 2014.

Other coaches on “The Voice” echoed Levine’s sadness. Blake Shelton tweeted he was “disgusted” and “heartbroken” that Grimmie had been murdered.

Christina Aguilera wrote, “So sad passing of @TheRealGrimmie. Beautiful member of #TheVoice family & true #Fighter. My heart goes out to her family, friends & fans. xo.”

The outpouring continued with more recording industry stars. Demi Lovato posted a heartfelt tweet: “#RIPChristina my thoughts and prayers are with her loved ones..”

Grammy-nominated singer Tori Kelly wrote: “i have no words. rip christina see you again, love. isaiah 25:8.”

“So sad right now,” Colton Hayes tweeted. “What an incredible talent that won’t be forgotten,” he continued.

Grimmie performed at the Plaza Live Theater in Orlando, Florida, and was headed to meet fans alongside the punk band Before You Exit, when a man shot her. Grimmie’s brother tackled the gunman seconds before he turned the gun on himself.

Grimmie had a massive social media following with more than three million YouTube subscribers. Donations are being collected through a gofundme account started by Grimmie’s management.
