MIAMI, Florida– A teenage boy who was paralyzed from the waist down after being shot in the back, surprised everyone at graduation when he walked across the stage.

CBS Miami says Aaron Willis was shot when he was just 15 years old. He returned to school in a wheelchair nearly a year later.

At that time, he began walking with braces, but on his graduation day, he knew he wanted to walk across the stage to get his diploma.  According to CBS Miami, he used special robotic legs to do just that.

Willis said he did it for his family. “They never let me get down. They never let me get discouraged. So today, I’m not walking for myself; I’m walking for my parents.”
