GARFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio —  The Garfield Heights Police Department posted a warning on its Facebook page about a burglary scheme.

Police said two men are walking up to elderly people while they are out in their yards. One man will distract the homeowner by talking about landscaping services, while the second man goes into the home to steal jewelry, money and other items.

The suspects have also talked their way into the home, where a man will distract the homeowner in one room while the other man goes into another room looking for items.

Garfield Heights police said the men– one of whom is described as Hispanic, 5’9″, 200 lbs with a black beard– are often communicating in Spanish on cell phones.

One of the men was reported to be driving a newer white Ford cargo van.

Police are asking residents to share the information with others and call them at 216-475-1234 if they have any information about the crimes.
