One dead in early morning fire at Copley Twp. hotel

COPLEY TOWNSHIP, OH - One person is dead and  another seriously injured after an early morning fire at a hotel in Copley Township.

Police and fire crews from six cities were called to the Hawthorn Suites on Montrose West Avenue just before 5 a.m. Saturday for a fire in one of the buildings at the hotel. Crews were able to put the fire out, but there were two victims.

One of the victims died in the blaze, the other was taken to Akron General Hospital with serious burns. Names of the two are being withheld until their families are notified.

Police and fire investigators, along with the State Fire Marshal, are now at the hotel investigating to find out what may have caused the fire. No damage estimate was available right away.
