FLORIDA – A Florida animal shelter was left to pick up the pieces after a paralyzed dog was left on their doorstep earlier this week.

According to WFLA, Genie was left by her owner. They could no longer to take care of her in the condition she was in.

The note left with Genie was just heartbreaking.

It read: “Please help my Genie. Genie (her name) is paralyzed from I believe her hips to her hind legs. I tried to manage her pain with medication from her vet but they only ease her pain and she needs surgery. I cannot afford so I ask that the Animal Health Center heal her and find her a loving forever home. Thank you.”

The shelter immediately started to work on finding a way to help Genie with the medical care she needed.

The shelter shared that on Friday they raised more than $20,000 for their animals, including Genie.
