HIGHLAND HILLS, Ohio -- Former Cleveland Browns player Reggie Rucker is accused of assaulting a man at a Highland Hills golf course late last month.

Officers were called to the Highland Park Golf Course just after 2 p.m. on April 30. The victim told police his friends allowed another group of golfers, including Rucker, to pass them.

They victim's group was listening to the radio while Rucker, 68, was in the tee box. According to the police report, Rucker confronted the man and asked if they had any golf etiquette. The two men argued and that's when Rucker grabbed the man's throat, the police report said.

The man pushed the former pro-football player away and Rucker fell to the ground.

"Rucker threatened to shoot him with a gun and raised his golf club above his head," the victim told police.

Rucker admitted to officers that he grabbed the man's neck, but said he had "nothing to shoot him with," the police report said. Officers patted down Rucker and placed him in a police car.

Soon after, he complained he wasn't feeling well and was taken to University Hospitals Ahuja Medical Center for treatment.

In April, Rucker pleaded guilty to wire fraud and making false statements to a federal officer. According to the Department of Justice, Rucker used money from Amer-I-Can and Cleveland Peacemakers to pay his gambling debts.

Prosecutors said the wide receiver used his celebrity status to collect charitable donations, which he use towards his mortgage, dry cleaning and groceries. Rucker was also accused of withdrawing $48,000 at a Las Vegas casino ATM from the Amer-I-Can bank account.

Recently, his sentencing was postponed since Rucker is participating in a study to determine if concussions may have caused him to embezzle the money.

Rucker will be arraigned on the assault and menacing charges Tuesday in Bedford Municipal Court.  Thursday at noon, the judge from his federal case will hold a hearing related to his bond, as a result of these new charges.

Rucker was with the Cleveland Browns from 1975 to 1981.
