OAKWOOD VILLAGE, Ohio -- Several charges have been filed against a man accused of abducting a woman in Oakwood Village and beating two Erie homeowners before he was shot and arrested.

Kyle Johnson is being held in the Erie County Prison on $500,000 bond, charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, simple assault, burglary and unlawful restraint.

Johnson was arrested on Tuesday in Erie. He was wanted by Oakwood Village police for abducting his ex-girlfriend, Brandi Shakir, 23, on Monday.

Erie police said Johnson broke into a home in Erie and put Shakir in the basement before beating the homeowners.

Two people heard screams and tried to subdue Johnson, but he escaped. One of them then shot him in the leg and in the back. The shooting happened as officers arrived.

Oakwood Village detectives interviewed Johnson Tuesday, and police are working with prosecutors in Erie County and Cuyahoga County about charges and when Johnson will be brought back to Ohio.

Shakir remains hospitalized in stable condition and was to talk to detectives Wednesday.
