OAKWOOD VILLAGE, Ohio -- The man suspected of abducting Brandi Shakir from her mother's Oakwood home Monday has been taken into custody in Erie, Pa.

Erie police say that Kyle Johnson, 25, was involved in an altercation outside a residence in Erie. Following that incident, he was taken into custody and was being taken to the hospital.

Police say Johnson was with a woman who is believed to be Shakir. She has not yet been positively identified. She is also being taken to the hospital.

Police in Oakwood Village believe Shakir, 23, was abducted from her mother's home on Lynbrook Drive Monday morning by Johnson, her ex-boyfriend.

The FBI is providing assistance to Oakwood Village Police Department in the investigation. A press conference has been set for 12:15 p.m. in regards to the case.

Shakir had a restraining order against Johnson after a beating last week that left her with two black eyes and a broken eye socket.

Monday, Oakwood Village police said Johnson was seen leaving Shakir's mother's home on Lynbrook Drive where she had moved after last week's attack.

A neighbor called 911 around 10:30 a.m. to report seeing him and then a fire at the house. Shakir was nowhere to be found.

Investigators put out an alert for a black Acura they believe Johnson was driving. It's an older model four-door sedan with license plate number EXV-6585.

Shakir and Johnson dated for about three years, but broke up more than one year ago.

Police say Johnson does have a criminal history, but up until now, it did not include anything violent.
