FAIRPORT HARBOR – Tall Ships America is returning to Lake Erie for the Tall Ships Challenge: Great Lakes 2016.

The ships will be at Fairport Harbor from July 8-10.

The ships will be racing through all five Great Lakes and stopping at several ports along the way.

Erin from Tall Ships America told Fox 8 that Cleveland was considered for a stop along the way, but due to the Republican National Convention “it just wouldn’t work.” She said emergency resources would be stretched too thin, making Fairport Harbor the better option.

The ships that will be visiting include El Galen Andalucia, U.S. Brig Niagara, Mist of Avalon, Pride of Baltimore II, Appledore IV, Appledore V.

The exact racing route will be announced closer to the start of the event.
