Off-duty officer arrests man after he allegedly followed his wife home

AKRON – A 29-year-old Akron woman was able to avoid a potentially dangerous situation after she noticed someone following her home after she left the gym around 6 a.m. Friday morning.

At one point, she said the man pulled next to her an an intersection and started yelling at her.

She called her husband, a police officer who was off duty, and starting honking her horn as she pulled into the driveway.

The man pulled in behind her.

As the man got out of the car, he began to approach the off-duty officer, who ordered him to the ground at gunpoint.

As he attempted to handcuff the man, the man struggled with the off-duty officer while a neighbor came to assist him.

The man, 38-year-old Andrew Hayes of North Canton, was charged with menacing, resisting arrest and criminal tresspasing.
