Valley View firefighter indicted for stealing nearly $50K in precious metals

CLEVELAND – Valley View firefighter Michael Simon, 49, has been charged with theft, tampering with records, grand theft and theft in office for allegedly stealing and scraping $46,000 in precious metals.

According to Joseph Frolik from the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office, Simon ran a cleaning business on the side.

He is accused of stealing and scraping the metal from two clients over several years.

He was charged with tampering with records because he is accused of working at the side business either while on duty or after calling in sick from the department.

Another defendant, Nicholas Simon,  has been charged with one count of receiving stolen property. The items include precious metals like, copper, wire, yellow brass and stainless steel, all valued at $419.90.

John Szustakowski was charged with two counts of receiving stolen property. The items include yellow brass, copper, wire and stainless steel valued at nearly $7,419,90.
