CLEVELAND - East 4th in downtown Cleveland is known for its vibrant nightlife, so it makes sense that award-winning chef Michael Symon is opening another restaurant there.

"When we opened Lola ten years ago, there was us, House of Blues and Pickwick and Frolic," Symon said. "So House of Blues was music and food. Pickwick and Frolic was comedy and food and Lola was the first food only restaurant. So to be able to be next door to our original restaurant with the concept we started 19 years ago was very exciting to us."

Mable's BBQ is much different than Lola though.

"We wanted to bring a different style of BBQ to Cleveland, something Clevelanders could call their own, so we're doing what we call a Cleveland-style BBQ," Symon said.  "All the wood is local, apple and cherry woods, only fruit woods. The meat will come to the table without any sauce on it at all because we don't feel that great BBQ needs sauce."

There is also a wide variety of cocktails.

"I think it's a very fun and comprehensive cocktail program and it's inspired by not only southern cocktail culture, but also mid century cocktails and whiskey. And lots and lots of bourbon."

Mable's BBQ will be opening on April 11 and is named after Symon’s beloved dog, Mabel.
