PARMA, Ohio — It was just after 4 p.m. Tuesday when a 16-year-old girl and 17-year-old CJ Pogozelski discovered something shocking behind the Toys R Us in Parma.

“We were just walking through the fields like we normally do.  And then we saw this mattress and a bunch of teddy bears and stuff,” said a 16-year-old girl who did not want her name used.

Hidden in the tall grassy fields behind the shopping center on Day Drive was suspected human skeletal remains.

“We are looking at it and I see the teeth in the skull.  And then I see the silver things, the fillings from a cavity,” said the girl.

The teens immediately called the Parma Police Department, who roped off the area from curious onlookers until the medical examiner’s office arrived.

“The remains are too decomposed to make any type of preliminary identification or age, gender, race, anything like that.  The medical examiner’s office is here; they will take custody of the remains and we will go from there,” said Lt. Kevin Riley, with the Parma Police Department.

Meantime, the teens can’t help wonder how long the remains were there and how they ended up there in the first place.

“There’s a box spring back there that’s been there a while.  But the mattresses where the bones were on them, we were back here at the end of August and beginning of January and we didn’t see this stuff before,” said CJ.
