FAIRVIEW PARK, OH – Single mom and nurse Mary Castellano-Zapola has been battling breast cancer for over 25 years. Now, at 47, the cancer has spread to her spine and doctors have said she has less than five years to live.

So when she was told by her insurance company that the roof on her Fairview Park house needed to be replaced, she didn’t waste time. She found a contractor and placed a deposit.

But the contractor never did the work, ignored her calls and eventually went out of business without ever returning her money.

So Mary called 1st Choice Roofing Company to get a new estimate. When owner Ian Fess heard her story, he decided to help.

Saturday, 1st Choice, along with   ABC Supply of Cleveland and CertainTeed Shingles of Sandusky started replacing her roof….free of charge.

Mary says she is especially grateful, especially given the fact that her insurance dropped her after the first contractor didn’t come through.  “It’s been one battle after another,” said Mary. “I’m so grateful for what 1st Choice is doing so I can have a new roof and get my homeowner’s insurance back. My family has been struggling for so long so this really is a blessing.”
