Cleveland police officer arrested for felonious assault

CLEVELAND – A Cleveland police officer was arrested on Friday for felonious assault.

According to a release from the Cleveland Police Department, officer David Manns got into an altercation with a female acquaintance around 4:50 a.m.

Manns was off duty at the time of the alleged incident.

The Cleveland Division of Police Integrity Control Section began an investigation earlier today. Manns turned himself into authorities Friday.

According to the arrest warrant, Manns grabbed the woman’s head and smashed it against a car. She had to get 5 stitches and has a separated shoulder. Investigators spoke to the victim at the hospital where she gave a statement.

Manns, 33, began working for the Cleveland Police Department in November 2013 in the third district.

He will be suspended without pay while the investigation is ongoing.
