Teen charged as adult in Kent State student’s murder

KENT, Ohio– The teen accused of shooting and killing Kent State student Nicholas Massa appeared in court on Friday.

The case against 17-year-old Ty Kremling was transferred to Portage County Common Pleas Court. His bond was set at $2 million.

Police said Massa, 18, was visiting a friend at the off-campus Ryan Place apartments on Feb. 7 when three suspects came in and demanded money. During an altercation, Kremling shot Massa, Kent police said.

Kremling, a Stow High School student, was originally charged in Portage County Juvenile Court with delinquency to aggravated murder. A second suspect, a 17-year-old Massillon teen, was also arrested.
