Man discovered in garbage truck died from being crushed, officials say

FAIRLAWN, Ohio -- The man found dead in a Fairlawn garbage truck Saturday appears to have died after being crushed by the truck's compactor.

The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office states that the man died from asphyxiation. He was identified as 49-year-old Brian S. Raber.

Police were called at around 4 a.m. when a Republic Waste Services truck driver said he thought there was a body in the back of his truck.

The driver was stopped at a commercial area on West Market Street, and his route picked up trash from three different jurisdictions.

Fairlawn police are asking that anyone with information - or questions -  on this call the detective bureau at 330-670-4300.
