OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — The Golden State Warriors have agreed to a deal with center Anderson Varejao for the rest of the season.
Varejao had spent all 12 seasons of his NBA career with Cleveland before being dealt last week to Portland in a three-team trade that sent Channing Frye from Orlando to the Cavaliers. The Trail Blazers cut the Brazilian, leaving him able to sign with any team.
With starting center Andrew Bogut nursing a strained right Achilles and backup Festus Ezeli out until at least late March with an injured left knee, the Warriors needed help at center.
Varejao posted about the move on Facebook, saying he is “honored to join a great organization.”
