Family escapes after fire spreads from garage to house

NORTH ROYALTON, Ohio -- Firefighters from three departments responded after a garage fire spread to a house in North Royalton.

Firefighters from North Royalton, Strongsville, and Broadview Heights were called to the home on Drake Road around 2:30 a.m. Monday.

All four people living in the home got out safely.

A person living in the home told Fox 8 that they attempted to put out the garage fire with a fire extinguisher, but then realized it was too big, told everyone to get out of the house, and called 911.

The fire spread from the garage to the home causing extensive damage.

The homeowner said several cats living in the home were unaccounted for.

The westbound lanes of Drake Road between W. 130th Street and Bennett Road were still closed as of 6 a.m. Monday.
