LAKEWOOD, N.J. — A community surrounded a homeless man with help after a stranger paid him to pour coffee on his own head.

Ronald Leggatt, 65, tells Asbury Park Press that he let the stranger videotape him pouring the the coffee on himself twice in exchange for $5.

Leggatt said even though he was embarrassed, he consented to the stranger’s request because he needed the money.

A bystander, Carlos Mejia, posted an account of the incident on social media after confronting the stranger. Community outcry prompted police to investigate. No charges were filed since Leggatt consented to the act.

The Rev. Steve Brigham, a homeless advocate who knows Leggatt, says it’s just something that you don’t do to other human beings.

The community agrees. NJ.com reports that many have come forward to help Leggatt. They’ve gotten him clothes and even a motel room as a snowstorm is expected to hit the area this weekend.

A touching YouTube video also shows one man telling Leggatt that he didn’t deserve to have something like that happen to him. He then offered to buy him a haircut and some food.

What’s more, TheLakewoodScoop.com reports that then on Friday, the stranger actually returned to apologize to Leggatt, and offered to have Leggatt pour coffee on HIS head in return.

“No, I wouldn’t do that,” said Leggatt.

After the apology, Leggatt said: “I feel like a million…billion dollars. Like I just hit the…Powerball. Thank you very much Lakewood, New Jersey!”
