GARFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio– An emaciated dog is fighting for her life after veterinarians found fabric in her stomach.

When Sapphire came to Canine Lifeline in Garfield Heights from the Mahoning County Dog Shelter last week, she only weighed 24 pounds. Every bone in her body was visible.

On Tuesday, veterinarians discovered fabric in her stomach and intestinal tract. According to Canine Lifeline, she was suffering from an infection and her intestines were perforated in several places. They removed a 16-inch section of her intestines.

Despite her shocking condition, Sapphire survived the two-hour surgery. Her prognosis is guarded.

Canine Lifelife said her vet bills will cost several thousand dollars. Donations can be made online at caninelifeline.org or send checks to Canine Lifeline, PO Box 25742, Garfield Heights, Ohio, 44125.
