9-year-old hurt in North Ridgeville sledding accident passes away

NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio — Police confirm that a 9-year-old boy injured in a sledding accident in North Ridgeville has passed away.

The accident happened around 5 p.m. Tuesday, when Drew Hayden was sledding down a hill in the Meadow Lakes subdivision. When he got to the bottom, he slid into the street and was struck and critically injured by a car.

He was taken to the hospital, where he had been listed in critical condition.

A press release from North Ridgeville police says while the incident is still under investigation, there are likely to be no charges filed against the driver of the vehicle involved.
