HUNTING VALLEY, Ohio — A dog belonging to a family who lost their son in a tragic car accident has been found after disappearing on Monday.

Rick Doody’s son, Alex, passed away after a car crash on May 14. Alex was with three other seniors from Hawken School when their car crashed into a tree.

Doody adopted Leo several months ago, when he learned the dog’s birthday was the same day Alex died.

Doody said the dog disappeared from his yard on Monday. He posted fliers all over the area and offered a $2,500 reward.

Doody said a friend received a call Thursday from someone claiming to know where Leo was.

The dog was being kept in a home in Pepper Pike, and police assisted in retrieving Leo from the home.

Police say it appears the dog was taken in a “crime of opportunity.”

It’s not clear if any charges will be filed, but Leo is said to be doing OK.
