Man trapped under granite slabs in Westlake dies

WESTLAKE, Ohio– A worker at U.S. Marble and Granite in Westlake died after he was trapped under granite slabs Thursday afternoon.

Westlake police and firefighters were called to the business on Crocker Road at about 3:23 p.m. According to police, slabs fell on 33-year-old Mitchel R. Williams, of Lakewood, in the warehouse.

Coworkers freed him, but he already suffered life-threatening injuries. Williams was taken to St. John Medical Center and then MetroHealth Medical Center, where he died.

Another employee was injured, but did not need medical care.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating.
