MILLERSBURG, Ohio – When it comes to crowd pleasing recipes, Lee Ann Miller has the market cornered. Lee Ann says her recipe for Amish Festive Chicken works perfectly for holiday gatherings as well as a simple satisfying supper dish.

Amish Festive Chicken
- 5-6lbs. of chicken breasts, cut into strips
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 2 eggs
- 3 Tablespoons of garlic powder
- 2-1/2 cups bread crumbs
- 1 cup runion breading
- 1 cup Emma Yoders chicken breading
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
(Start with using only 1/2 the breading mixture, add more as you go. This way you can keep any leftover you don’t use). This makes a big batch of breading.
Vegetable oil for frying
Beat egg, add buttermilk and garlic powder. Pour over chicken breast. Marinate in sealed container in the refrigerator for 8-24 hours. Drain excess off each piece of chicken and roll chicken in breading mixture a piece at a time. On medium heat, fry chicken in oil 3-4 minutes or until golden brown. Place in baking dish and bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes.
Sometimes we serve this with a chicken gravy over the top — perfect meat with mashed potatoes and brown butter!
