AKRON, Ohio-- Akron police are looking for a suspect after a woman was attacked with a hammer Tuesday afternoon.

A woman knocked on the door of the victim's Dodge Avenue house at about 1 p.m. and asked to use the phone, according to police. The 65-year-old victim refused, but offered to get her phone book.

That's when the suspect followed the victim into her house and attacked her with a hard object, possibly a hammer, police said. The victim was hit in the head several times and fell to the floor.

The suspect took her purse before getting away. A passerby heard the victim and called police.

Officers found the woman on her front porch covered in blood. She was taken to Akron General Medical Center and is listed in serious condition, though her injuries do not appear to be life threatening.

Anyone with information should call the Akron Police Department.
