BEREA, Ohio-- The FOX 8 I-TEAM has obtained exclusive Berea police body camera video catching a suspect in the act and helping to get justice for an 83-year-old victim.
Roger Seidel is now facing 11 charges, accused of an elaborate scheme to rip off a former friend. Some of the evidence was captured on camera as police arrived.
Police made the arrest early one morning in September, and the video shows a garage door opening with the suspect walking out as officers rolled up.
After police made the arrest, video shows officers finding a safe loaded with cash in the trunk of the victim’s car, and later the video also shows police finding how the alleged thief had broken into the home as the elderly man slept.
Investigators figure Roger Seidel broke into the home, stole the car keys, took the victim’s car and drove to Cleveland, stole a safe where the homeowner worked, drove back to Berea to open the safe, and then police showed up on scene.
Seidel has been indicted, and court records show the case is now in plea negotiations.
Seidel can be heard on the tape asking for mercy and promising to change his life.
