2 guards hospitalized, 13 juveniles charged after fight at detention center

CANTON, Ohio — Two guards were taken to the hospital, and 13 juveniles were charged after a fight at the Multi-County Juvenile Attention System in Canton Monday night.

According to a release from the Stark County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the facility at just before 11:30 p.m. They were met with center employees who were in a secured fence area with 46 juvenile detainees. The detainees had been moved to the holding area due to a fire alarm.

While the detainees were being held, a fight had erupted between several of them. Attention Center staff was attempting to stop the fights when several employees were assaulted by some of the detainees.

Two workers were hurt and taken to area hospitals, where they were treated and released.

Thirteen juveniles were charged with aggravated riot, and one was charged additionally with felonious assault.

The incident is still under investigation.
