WILLOUGHBY HILLS, Ohio — A 19-year-old Lakeland Community College student who was reported missing Oct. 23 has been found safe.

Willoughby Hills police said they received a 911 call just after 1:30 Friday afternoon from a man saying Matt Lunney was found in the woods in the area of Dixon Drive in Willoughby Hills.  He was given medical treatment at the scene and then taken to a local hospital.

At a press conference Friday afternoon, police said Lunney left on his own to cool off. Willoughby Hills police said he thought he would be in trouble, so he hid from rescue teams. No charges will be filed.

Police said Matt finished his shift at Panera Bread around 11 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 22. Sometime between returning to his Willoughby Hills home and police receiving the report on Oct. 23 that he was missing, it’s believed the teen changed his clothes and walked away from home, leaving behind his phone, keys, and wallet.
