Woman accused of beating boy at Cleveland day care appears in court

CLEVELAND- The woman accused of repeatedly hitting a 2-year-old boy at a Cleveland day care appeared in court Thursday morning.

Melissa TateMelissa Tate, 49, pleaded not guilty to endangering children and her bond was set at $100,000. She was also referred for a psychiatric evaluation.

Video obtained by FOX 8 News shows a worker at the Cedar Early Learning Center hitting a little boy dozens of times with a backscratcher. The worker is also seen dragging the child and throwing him on a changing table.

An arrest warrant identified Tate as the employee, who has since been terminated.

The 2-year-old's mother, Ryane Lamb, said he son suffered bruises and welts, and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
