OLMSTED FALLS, Ohio -- Virginia Schmook says life hasn't been easy for her long-time friend, Lisa McFadden -- but through it, she's always been a giver.
Six years ago, Lisa donated a kidney to a co-worker, and she cared for another ailing co-worker as if she was her own mother.
“Family and friends are everything to Lisa,” said Schmook.
But five months ago, Lisa’s life changed forever when her adult son unexpectedly went into cardiac arrest and died.
"Since then, she has had many struggles and challenges along the way," said Schmook.
So Schmook decided to nominate her long-time friend to be flower bombed.
"I saw this segment on Fox 8 and I thought it would be wonderful for her, to spread a little sunshine in her life because I miss her smiling," Schmook said.
Team Petitti arrived armed and ready to give her Olmsted Falls home a new look.
The transformation involved a fall clean-up, a bit of sprucing up and a pop of color.
“So, we came in and we added a lot of fall color. We added the cornstalks to give it some height, some straw bales and a lot of orange with the pumpkins and the mums. We added some cabbage and kale. We have some gorgeous decorative fall combo planters that are planted up with an ornamental grass,” said Ken Zawicki, of Petitti’s Garden Centers.
When Lisa arrived home, she couldn’t believe her eyes and what Petitti’s had done in less than an hour.
"Amazing -- I am just stunned at all the color. It doesn't even look like my house anymore," Lisa said. "I’m so surprised at this. She's usually not one to keep a secret. So, I am a little surprised she was able to pull this off.”
Petitti’s does the Flower Bombing just to brighten somebody’s day.
“I am so grateful to the folks at Petitti’s to flower bomb me, and you guys as well,” Lisa said with a smile.
Fall flowers are the secret weapon Petitti Garden Centers use to brighten up an unsuspecting person's yard, but the real reason Fox 8 and Petitti's plan a Flower Bombing surprise is to hopfeully lift the spirits of someone who needs a little extra cheer.
