DENVER, CO - A Denver high school football team has taken a community service project much more than just a step further: they have crowned a three-year-old girl queen.

Little Avelynn was born with heart complications and has had a number of open heart surgeries in her short lifetime. As part of a community project, members of the football team worked to turn her backyard into a beautiful lawn. And when they met Avelynn, they knew they had to do more.

One player put it this way: "When we saw that little girl walk out onto her new lawn it touched my heart so much. I wanted to cry."

So they invited her to their homecoming football game, and crowned her the 2015 Manual High School Homecoming Queen.

"To see this girl walk out and be crowned queen. Something she won't probably experience ever so it really means a lot to us," says running back  Losseny Kone.

Manual High lost the actual game, but everywhere else in their lives, they are big winners.
