ALLIANCE, Ohio — All classes have been canceled at the University of Mount Union today after the death of a student.

According to a statement from Mount Union, freshman Sydney Breyer, of Springsboro, passed away.

Counseling services and pastoral services will be available in Dewald Chapel from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday. All campus offices will remain open, and faculty and staff will also be on hand to offer support to students.

The statement also said in part:

“We are very saddened by the loss of freshman Sydney Breyer, a dear member of the Mount Union family. At this time of significant grief, we are focusing our attention on offering support to the Breyer family and our campus community.

We expect that students will gather together in remembrance, mourning and support throughout the coming days – both in organized and casual ways – and counseling will continue to be made available to those in need. We appreciate the continued outpouring of support shown to the family and our students, faculty and staff, and ask that our community be given the time to grieve and heal.”
