ESPERANCE, Australia – Dave Price was just enjoying a paddleboarding outing in the waters off Esperance, Australia, when a pair of inquisitive Southern Right whales decided to say hello.

And thanks to a local man who launched his quadcopter drone after hearing of the whales, this remarkable encounter was captured from above.  The aerial video also gives us all an amazing perspective on the size of the whales…especially when you compare them to Price and his paddleboard!

The drone’s operator said,  “I don’t think it was dangerous – the whales moved to where he was and the whole time they were very slow-moving and peaceful.”

The whales can grow up to 18 meters long and are called southern right whales because they were historically the “right” whale to catch, according to Stuff.co.nz.
