EAST CLEVELAND -  The pedestrian hit by an East Cleveland police cruiser Saturday night has died of his injuries.

The accident happened shortly before 10 p.m. as the cruiser was responding to an emergency call with its overhead emergency lights flashing. A 21-year-old man tried to cross at the intersection of Superior and Emily Street, and he stepped in front of the cruiser and was hit. He rolled up onto the hood of the car and hit the windshield. He was taken to University Hospitals where he died from his injuries.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash because a police department was involved. They have not released the name of the pedestrian yet.

The East Cleveland Police officer who was driving the car was also taken to the hospital, but his injures were not life-threatening.
