MASSILLON, Ohio- Massillon police are warning teens and parents about the dangers of pop-bottle bombs after one exploded near a police car.

Over the past few days, residents have reported gunshots to the Massillon Police Department. According to police, what sounds like gunfire may actually be plastic pop bottles filled with household chemicals and foil.

One of these devices even blew up near a patrol car on Lincoln Way East. No one was injured and the cruiser was not damaged.

Police said these bombs can sever fingers, cause burns or result in blindness. They ask parents to talk to their children about the physical dangers and remind them it is illegal.
