MACEDONIA - Police are investigating after an 8-month old boy was found in a car in the Walmart parking lot in Macedonia.

Police say four children were supposed to be dropped off at daycare around 7:45 a.m., but the 8-month-old was never taken inside.

The car was then driven home to Garfield Heights and the baby was left inside.

Around 11 a.m., the grandmother went to work at Walmart in the same car, not aware the baby was still there.

When the other children were picked up at daycare, it was discovered that only three were dropped off.

Once it was discovered that the 8-month-old was unaccounted for, the grandmother was called at work.

She then went out to the car and found the baby unresponsive around 5:30 p.m. Police were called and the baby was deceased when they arrived.

The Summit County Medical Examiner was on the scene and an autopsy will be performed on Thursday.

Walmart released the following statement about the incident:

This is a very tragic situation and we are still learning all of the details at this time. We are working with law enforcement to help provide any additional information.
