I-271 southbound express lanes back open after fatal crash

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ohio -- The Interstate 271 southbound express lanes reopened Wednesday afternoon after a fatal semi crash that snarled traffic in Highland Heights Tuesday.

The crash happened at just before 9:30 a.m. when two semis collided in the Interstate 271 southbound express lanes. Both semis caught fire.

Alain Leduc, of Quebec, Canada, was killed in the crash, which is still under investigation.

An ODOT spokeswoman said an environmental crew removed hazardous chemicals from the road, while the sewer system had to be cleaned. The lanes were back open shortly before 4 p.m. Wednesday.

ODOT said crews resurfaced about 200 feet of each lane.
