Miracle girl? 3-year-old drowns in pool, what happens next stuns doctors

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. — The family of a little girl from Missouri says she is alive because of a miracle.

Jamie Nipper tells KFVS that back in July, she took her 3-year-old daughter, Alise, to swim party with her school friends. After swimming for a couple of hours, the weather changed from sunny to stormy.

Jamie said she saw lightning, and all the children began to get out of the pool. But when she went to find Alise, she couldn’t find her — until she saw a foot sticking out from under a raft. Alise had been wearing a life jacket.

“Something took over me. I remember jumping across the pool, coming up and shouting, ‘dial 911’,” Jamie told KFVS.

After she got Alise out of the water, Jame said she was blue and didn’t have a pulse.

Jamie and another woman performed CPR for 12 minutes. Then, they found a heartbeat.

Alise was taken to the hospital, where doctors said the outlook didn’t look good.

Prayer chains started, and a Facebook page was set up for followers to follow the family and Alise’s progress. Six days later, Alise’s condition improved.

Doctors removed the ventilator and took Alise out of sedation. She began talking and singing, and two weeks later, she went home.

Doctors say Alise’s recovery is amazing.

“For her brain to come through this and be as functional as possible is astounding,” said Dr. Jeremy Garrett. “Prayer and luck and divine intervention were the key factors.”
